Nothing short of divine intervention will get you 100% rate of salvaging the desired component. The only thing you can do is hope, if you try. There is always a chance of getting the unwanted mod.

I find crossing the toes on my left foot seems to help.
It has been my experience that prefix mods (fiery, sundering, etc.) tend to salvage more than suffix ones, but I have no empirical data to support that claim. Rico |

Simple, really. You build a time machine, and if you fail to get the right mod, you rewind time and try it again. I find divine intervention works pretty well too. Maybe you should ask a monk to do it?
Really the only thing you can do is pray. And make sure you're using the expert salvage kit, not the normal one. |
